Aerial Drone Imagery Annotation for Property Intelligence

Building footprint and property boundary annotation from raw drone orthomosaics, demonstrating a workflow suited to land-intelligence and underwriting use cases.

The Challenge Raw drone orthomosaics are stitched from hundreds of individual flight images, leaving warped edges, uneven lighting, and irregular canopy occlusion across each frame. The team needed to trace precise building footprints and distinguish primary residential structures from accessory buildings (garages, pool houses, sheds) despite these distortions — without access to clean, pre-rectified satellite imagery.

Our Solution Annotators manually placed vertex points along each rooftop corner to build tight polygon outlines, cross-referencing shadow lines and eave edges to resolve occlusion from trees and overhangs. Each structure was individually labeled and classified (e.g. "Residential Building 1 (Manual)") to separate primary dwellings from secondary structures like pools and driveways, with orientation markers recorded for downstream mapping use.

The Deliverables Geo-referenced building footprint polygons exported in GeoJSON / Shapefile format · Structure-level classification labels distinguishing residential, accessory, and hardscape features · QA-verified vertex accuracy for direct ingestion into GIS and property-underwriting pipelines.
